Character History:
http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Tear_Grants

Character Personality:

Tear often comes off as unfeeling and cold, as she's a very reserved and straightforward individual. This is a result of having grown up a soldier, and having been taught to keep her emotions in check. She's the kind of person that rarely freaks out over things or people's decisions, and while she will tell them she's against it she won't get overly emotional. In that respect, she acts almost as though she's emotionally detached from those around her. this is not the case. Tear cares a great deal about people, and about her companions. She just doesn't show it, because she sees showing too much emotion as a weakness. Soldiers keep their emotions in check, and that is that.

However, she isn't good at lying, and while she doesn't overreact or make a big deal over things, people can tell when something is bothering her. She'll be more distant and thoughtful, or just off. Really, while she tries to hide away her emotions she does a very poor job of it. Fighting her brother,  having the miasma trapped in her body--and Ion's sacrifice to take the miasma into his own body in order to save her--all weigh heavily on her, and her companions notice. She will always act as though things don't bother her, however, and she will push herself constantly no matter the emotional burden. As Guy remarks: She wouldn't be Tear if she didn't act tough.

Despite coming off as cold, Tear is very polite and courteous to nearly everyone she meets (save people who act like Luke.). This is especially true when it comes to those with power and authority. While it may not seem like it, she does her best to take others feelings into consideration. However, due to her training she often doesn't realize certain things would bother normal people. An example would be Luke's reluctance to kill. While she doesn't enjoy killing others, she knows that it's a necessary evil when it comes to war and survival. However, Luke-- a civilian with no fighting experience--adamantly refuses to kill. Tear doesn't realize how much of a problem the issue is for him, and it results in getting her hurt. How average, everyday people are affected by many things are often times beyond her, because she grew up away from the rest of the world and was raised a fighter. However, that doesn't mean she disregards people's feelings, because she does her best to understand and accommodate them. She just doesn't realize the extent of people's feelings a majority of the time.

She can be very blunt, saying things just as they are, and asking questions without really thinking it would be a problem. She inquires about Guy's family's death without really thinking the question inappropriate, and will often ask questions that most others would think to avoid or be more subtle about. If something she says does bother someone, she doesn't shrug it off and will apologize for her mistake.

Tear is surprisingly strong emotionally. As I said above, she will push herself despite emotional or physical burden. She has to go up against her brother, after all, and that means killing him. Doing something like that takes incredible emotional strength and force of will. Even when the miasma threatened her health, she still went and did what she thought was right. She's the kind of person that sticks with her convictions. It takes a lot to sway her, and she's not one to believe rumors unless she witnesses things first hand. Her view of Maestro Moh's is an excellent example of this. In order to preserve the Score, he was willing to do everything in his power to start a war. Most people were aware of this fact, and disliked Moh's because of it. Tear, however, refused to believe that was the case, and it wasn't until she heard Moh's plans in person that she believed the accusations against him.

There's a motherly side to her as well. She looks out for people, and pushes them to change for the better. Though her words may seem harsh, the things she says are for the benefit of the one she's scolding. She is not afraid to speak out against someone that's out of line, and will always explain her reasoning to them. Most of the time, the person on the receiving end of this is Luke, as he can be an idiot. Though she does this kind of thing with anyone that acts out of line. She will try to convince people before fighting, unless they make the first move and she's forced into combat. She cares, and that's more than evident throughout the game. She just tries not to make it as obvious as she should.

Her love of cute things will sometimes cause her to act in a surprisingly impulsive manner. For example, when Mieu learns to fly she grabs hold of the poor Cheagle and floats with him. There is no hesitation on her part, she just acts on impulse, which is strange for her. She frequently mentions when things are cute, though she tries to hide her soft spot from others, as she finds it somewhat embarrassing.

At first glance, Tear comes off as cold and unfeeling. However, she's a strong young woman who cares a lot about her companions and those she wishes to protect.

Character Abilities you would like to expand on further:
  • She's a Melodist. As such, she uses Fonic Hymns in battle. Being a Melodist also means her strong suit is support in battle. While a few of her Hymns are used to damage enemies, a majority of them are used to heal, raise stats, and defend. She is also a Seventh Fonist, and can used Fonic Artes in combat. Many of which are more geared towards combat instead of support. This makes her relatively versatile as a combatant, though most of the time she is used for support purposes.

  • She is a soldier. She has a plethora of combat experience, so being dragged in to fight in a war won't hinder her. It'll be confusing, yes, but she'll adapt to the situation relatively quickly. Her experience in combat also makes her rather strong, as her body is conditioned for fighting.

  • She pushes herself to accomplish her goals. I'm putting this in both the strength and weakness section, because it falls under both. It's an admirable trait, and means that she does her all not matter the situation. It is also a weakness, however, which I will go into in that section.

Character Weaknesses you would like to expand on further:
  • She often pushes herself too hard. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing (Pushing yourself to achieve goals and the like can be very beneficial.) she often takes it to the extreme, and ends up burdening herself or putting her health at risk. Which leads me to my next point:

  • The miasma. Due to lowering the Sephiroth, miasma has entered and had affected her body negatively, putting her life at risk. She has to take medicine to suppress the effects, and even then she puts further strain on her body by going against the doctors discussions and continuing to lower the outer lands. While yes, she didn't really have a choice, as the world would have been put at risk if she stopped, her decision put herself in harms way and could have been fatal.

  • Her coming off as cold and distant, and trying to put a wall up between herself and others will not only get in the way of finding a partner, it will also get in the way of forging other relationships.

[ SOUL CAMPAIGN SECTION ]

What abilities will your character retain in Soul Campaign? Bullet-form is fine.

  • Her combat experience. She's grown up a fighter, so it wouldn't make sense for her to suddenly become  a novice.

  • Above average strength. While she's no Hulk Hogan, she is conditioned for combat, so she would be slightly stronger than the average Human.

What weaknesses will your character lose or gain in Soul Campaign? Bullet-form is fine.
  • As she will be losing the ability to use her Fonic Artes and Hymn's, she will be at a disadvantage. She's able to fight without them, but seeing as they're what she usually uses to fight, she will have to adjust to simply using physical attacks.

  • She would have to adapt to the Meister/Weapon system, as it's not something she is even remotely familiar with. In addition, she isn't...really the type of person to let herself get that close to someone so easily, which would get in the way of forming a strong bond with a weapon, and could potentially put the two of them in harms way.

  • A weakness she would lose is the negative effect the miasma would have on her body. While it would most likely still be there, the fact that there is no miasma in Death City would mean it wouldn't affect her body any worse than it already does.

The wish Death the Kid made to the BREW in 2009 was to “rescue Death City and stop the waves of Madness from overtaking the world.” By whatever means necessary. Pretend you are the BREW. Why would you choose to bring this character to Death City?

Tear is a soldier, and in any war having those with combat experience is an asset. Tear is a good and experienced fighter. She knows war, loss, and how to make difficult decisions. She would definitely be able to help save the city, and get rid of the madness, and would be able to help train those who aren't naturally fighters.

If your character has difficulty verbally communicating or can’t verbally communicate at all (mute or non-humanoid), elaborate on how this will be treated in the game. N/A

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why is your character a Meister and not a Weapon?

Honestly, Tear can go either way. Growing up a soldier means she's a weapon in her own right. However, her skill in combat and fighting situations would be more suited for a Meister, as she would be able to aid her partner in battle. She's agile and quick, and while her soldier training would make for an excellent weapon, it would make for an even better Meister.

What is your character’s Meister Ability? Why?

Soul Serenade: In game, Tear uses Fonic Hymns to deal a wide range of effects--from attacking and defense, to healing and the like. As such, this particular Meister Ability fits in with that rather nicely.

Soul Panacea: For the most part, Tear acts as the healer in the party, and while using healing Fonic Artes (Or any other kind of Fonic Arte or Hymn) she is unable to move, both of which work well with this ability.

Protective Soul: Tear claims that it is her duty to protect civilians, and she is always doing her best to protect those she cares about.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Describe your character’s soul with six adjectives.
Stoic, calm, strong, motherly, caring, blunt

What does your character’s soul look like? Be creative.

A light tan. It's got a frown and a blush, with Tears eye-covering bangs.

Ah…Greetings. My name is Sergeant Tear Grants, of the Oracle Knights Intelligence Division. I’m one of those that just arrived here, so please bear with me while I get used to how things in Death City are run.

Also, if anyone would be able to assist me in this--I would like to know more about this place. I may have only been here for a short time, but I have already noticed a number of glaring differences between this world and my own.  Given the situation, learning any other differences between the two would be prudent, especially whilst fighting a war on foreign soil.

That being said, I would like to make it known that I will do everything in my power to keep the civilians of this place safe from harm. While this world is not my own, it is my duty as a soldier. This situation may be less than ideal. However, I look forward to cooperating with all of you, and bringing this war to an end as quickly as possible.

[ Okay that…covers that, she supposes. Man she is not good at this. Should she say something else? It seemed trivial to ask meaningless things… so…

There's a small pause before: ]

That is all. Thank you for your time.

Provide a Third Person sample set during the last minutes on their world and/or their first few moments in the Kishin Chamber.

She looks over the letter one more time, before setting it down on her desk with a sigh. This was the first letter she had ever written, and she wanted to be sure it sounded alright. How silly, being so unsure over something so trivial. Yet she couldn't help it, and truth be told, she didn't really know what to put in a letter. What kinds of things did others write? What would be acceptable? In the end, she had decided to simply let Luke know what was going on politically, and what everyone was doing in the new state the world was in. Though she wasn't entirely sure that was enough.

Should she put something more personal into it? She frowns at the piece of paper, even more unsure than she had been previously. Perhaps she should ask someone who has more experience writing letters to look it over. Though the thought of doing that was embarrassing, and she didn't like the idea of admitting her uncertainty over something that should be of little consequence. No, she would send it as it is.

Before she can head out to send it, she finds herself waking somewhere unfamiliar. Instantly, she's on guard and ready for combat. It was dark, she didn't recognize where she was, and it didn't help that the room was less than accommodating. To make matters worse, she didn't have a weapon on her, so she would have to hope for enough time to cast her Artes...

"Welcome to Death City"

She turns quickly to the voice, still ready for a fight. Though she's hoping for answers more than anything...and answers she did get. Death City, Meisters, Weapons, a war. It was a lot to take in. Though one thing was certain: She wouldn't be returning home any time soon.
